ARCHITECTURE OF MEMORY AND THE TEST OF WAR

Wed, 29 Nov 2023 18:30 - 21:00 GMT

26-30 Kensington Palace Gardens London W8 4QY United Kingdom

The 1914 Peace Memorial (Cairn of Peace) located at Slavkov/Austerlitz in southern Moravia (site of the Battle of the Three Emperors), a splendid reminder of the futility of war, its detrimental effect on people and the heritage lost in the war zones, is given new meaning by this monumental project. By designing a striking educational and activities setting, Petr Franta has shaped a precinct that not only honours the original structure, but newly serves as a strong platform for discussion and debate. With the test of war very much around us today, this is an inspirational talk.
